Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a knee injury. Herrera was injured in the Europa League semifinal second leg against Ajax and will undergo surgery on Thursday. He is expected to be out for up to six weeks. This means that he will miss United’s appearance in the Europa League final as well as the Premier League season finale against Chelsea on Sunday. Herrera had been one of United’s best players this season and his absence will be felt.
Tottenham Hotspur have been drawn in Group H alongside Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge and APOEL. Tottenham were drawn against Dortmund in their first match of the group stage but they were able to come away with a 2-1 victory thanks
UEFA Europa League
The UEFA Europa League is an annual football club competition organised by UEFA. It was first played in 1955–56, and has been contested every year since then. The tournament consists of teams from across Europe, and is open to all national teams except for those from Andorra, Kosovo, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican City. In 2013, it was announced that the Europa League would become a global club competition from the 2015–16 season onwards.
This year’s edition of the UEFA Europa League features 32 teams competing in a knockout format. The top eight clubs after the group stage will progress to the knockout stage, where they will be joined by the next four clubs from their group. The final will be played at a neutral venue, to be decided by two semi-finals and a final. Basel are currently the holders of the title, having won their first ever title in 2013.
England will play against Tunisia on Sunday in their opening match of the World Cup. This is England’s fourth World Cup appearance, and their first since 2006. With the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Jesse Lingard in their squad, many are predicting a successful tournament for the Three Lions.
